Wifi hotspot spreads word

COVENTRY'S University Square was turned into a temporary wireless hotspot on Friday, allowing people to connect their computers to the internet.

Computer experts parked a Smart Car providing wireless internet access in the city centre square as part of a publicity drive to highlight the benefits of the internet.

Anyone within 100 metres of the car could use their mobile phones, computers or personal digital assistants to look at websites.

It was part of the West Midlands Mobile and Wireless project, run by regeneration agency Advantage West Midlands, to encourage small and medium-sized businesses to use wireless internet technology to expand.

Staff from the project are in the process of creating wireless network in the city centre called GodivaNet.
